India's First Implantation of AMO Tecnis Multifocal Toric IOL Dr Suresh ...

We are pleased to share with you video of India's first implantation of AMO Tecnis Multifocal Toric IOL (20.50 Diopter, ZCT150). This 58 years case (Railway engineer working at Mumbai) presented to us with corneal astigmatism of 1.63 Diopter. The surgery of Tecnis Multifocal Toric IOL implantation went very well with excellent visual outcome for near and distance.

Dear All, In today's world, sadly doctors do not hold the same place of respect as they did during the time of Dr. B C Roy and there is a steadily declining mutual trust and erosion of the doctor patient relationship. While patients often complain that doctors are proud, indifferent, do not give them expected care, take hefty fees, are dominating and confuse them with a lot of medical jargon; doctors are also bitter about the increasingly aggressive attitude of patients, who are willing to fight at the drop of a hat, do not respect doctors or their work, always blame doctors for everything without understanding the disease and its consequences. This scenario is not good for society at all as hospitals and clinics are supposed to be safe havens for the treatment and care of the sick and diseased, and we can't afford to let them turn into battlegrounds.

Violence against doctors is becoming global phenomenon. Of late incidence of violence against doctors has increased. Very often we hear doctors being molested, thrashed and abused by lay public for a trivial fault, or no fault of theirs. At least in one instance, a doctor was shot dead by angry relatives.

First Implantation of AMO Tecnis Toric IOL by Dr Suresh K Pandey at SuVi Eye Institute Lasik Laser Center, Kota India

Dear All, In this video, we share pearls for the first implantation of the AMO Tecnis Toric IOL performed on October 9, 2012 at SuVi Eye Institute & Lasik Laser Center, Kota, Rajasthan, India (www.suvieye.com) . This 39 years old patient presented with posterior sub-capsular cataract with with-the-rule corneal astigmatism of 1.62 Diopters. Phaco-aspiration of soft cataract was performed using AMO Signature System with Ellips Transveral Ultrasound with FX. The AMO Tecnis Toric (ZCT 150, 21.50 D) was implanted in the capsular bag and precisely aligned along the steep axis (90 degree). The  postop vision was 6/6 (p) and N6 with addition of plus 2.50 diopters. The AMO Tecnis Toric IOL contains a toric component on the posterior surface of the optic, but is otherwise structurally identical to the AMO Tecnis one-piece IOL. Implantation of the Amo TecnisToric IOL seems to be an effective and safe method for astigmatism correction in cataract patients, and requires only small modifications from a standard phaco-procedure. The Tecnis Toric 1-Piece IOL combines wavefront designed aspheric and toric optic technologies on a hydrophobic acrylic platform for sharper distance vision without spectacles to correct preexisting corneal astigmatism. It reduces spherical aberration to essentially zero for sharper vision, reduces chromatic aberration for better image quality, and features the company's Tri-Fix 3-Point Fixation haptic design for stability and centration.
