आइए हम भारत से अँधेपन के अभिशाप को समाप्त करने के लिए मिलकर काम करें विश्वभर में 4.3 करोड़ से अधिक व्यक्ति अँधता के अभिशाप से ग्रसित है। भारत में एक करोड 50 लाख अँधता से पीडित है। विश्वभर में हर 5 सैकण्ड में एक व्यस्क व्यक्ति और प्रति मिनट एक बच्चा अँधता के अभिशाप से ग्रसित होता है। विश्वभर में अँधता के पाँच प्रमुख कारण मोतियाबिन्द, कालापानी, पर्दे (रेटिना) एवं कॉर्निया की बीमारियाँ, दृष्टिदोष आदि हैं। लगभग 80 प्रतिशत अँधता से पीडित रोगियों में उपचार/ऑपरेशन के माध्यम से रोशनी लौटाई जा सकती है। देश की आजादी के 80 साल बीत जाने पर राष्ट्रीय अँधता उन्मूलन कार्यक्रम के सन 1976 से जारी रहने के बावजूद भारत में उपचार योग्य अँधता उन्मूलन के दिशा मेे युद्ध स्तर पर कार्य करने की आवश्यकता है। भारत की आत्मा गांवों में बस्ती है और देश के दूर दराज ग्रामीण ईलाकों के आर्थिक रूप से असमर्थ, शिक्षा से वंचित व्यक्तियों में भ्रांतियों के चलते अंधता का अभिशाप आए दिन देखने को मिलता है। दिनांक 4 अगस्त 2023 को मेरे अपने गाँव मोहना से 80 वर्षीय बुजुर्ग बांयी आंख में तेज दर्द से कराते हुए उपचार हेतु सुवि नेत्र चिकित्सालय, कोटा पहुंचे। नेत्र जांच करने पर उनकी बांयी आंख में पका हुआ मोतियाबिन्द, कालापानी, (फेकोमाफिक ग्लूकोमा) पाया गया। उनका मोतियाबिन्द ऑपरेशन एवं लेंस प्रत्यारोपण सुवि नेत्र चिकित्सालय, कोटा में निःशुल्क किया गया। पुतली को फैलाने के लिए मैल्यूगिनरिंग का उपयोग किया गया। आइए मोतियाबिन्द के पूरी तरह पकने का इंतजार ना करें। समय रहते हुए मोतियाबिन्द ऑपरेशन करवाएं जिससे आंखों की रोशनी सदा के लिए नहीं चली जाए। आइए हम भारत से अँधेपन के अभिशाप को समाप्त करने के लिए मिलकर काम करें। डॉ.सुरेश पाण्डेय डॉ.विदुषी शर्मा सुवि नेत्र चिकित्सालय, कोटा। Let us work together to eliminate the curse of Blindness More than 43 million people worldwide suffer from the curse of blindness. One crore 50 lakh people in India are suffering from blindness. Globally, one adult goes blind every 5 seconds, and every minute one child suffers from the curse of blindness. Major causes of blindness in the world are age-related cataracts, glaucoma, diseases of the retina, cornea, and uncorrected refractive error, etc. About 80 percent of patients suffering from blindness can regain their eyesight through treatment/operation. Despite the National Program for Control of Blindness (NPCB) continuing since 1976 after 80 years of the country's independence, there is a need to work on a war footing toward eradicating curable blindness in India. The soul of India resides in the villages and due to misconceptions, and lack of awareness the curse of blindness is seen in the far-flung rural areas of the country among the economically weaker and illiterate people. On August 4, 2023, an 80-year-old man from my own village Mohna (Tehsil Rawatbhata) reached SuVi Eye Hospital, Kota with complaints of loss of vision and severe pain in his left eye. On eye examination, a mature cataract (leading to an increase in IOP of 80 mm of Hg, phacomorphic glaucoma) was found in his left eye. His cataract operation (phacoemulsification) and IOL implantation were done free of cost at SuVi Eye Hospital, Kota. A Malyugin Ring was used to achieve pupillary dilatation and Viscoat OVD was used to protect the corneal endothelium. Postoperatively, the patient regained 6/18 vision. Let's not wait for the cataract to mature completely. Get the cataract operation done in time so that the eyesight does not go away forever.
