कब तक अपमानित होंगे डॉक्टर ? राजस्थान के सेडवा (बाड़मेर) के सरकारी अस्पताल (सामुदायिक स्वास्थ्य केंद्र) में हाल ही की घटना बेहद चिंताजनक है। एक डॉक्टर, जो पूरे दिन में 250 मरीजों को देखने, उपचार करने में अपनी ड्यूटी निभा रहा था, थकान के बावजूद अपने कर्तव्य का पालन कर रहा था। तभी निरीक्षण के लिए आए एक उपखंड अधिकारी (SDM) ने डॉक्टर के काम की सराहना करने की बजाय उसके सम्मान को तार-तार कर दिया। मरीजों के सामने अधिकारी ने आदेश दिया — "इसे फिर से देखो!" डॉक्टर ने अपनी स्थिति स्पष्ट करनी चाही, लेकिन उनकी कोई बात सुनी ही नहीं गई। SDM ने डॉक्टर को धमकी देते हुए कहा — "तुम्हें पुलिस के हवाले कर दूंगा!" एक अन्य घटना जायल (नागौर) में घटी, जहां SDM साहब अस्पताल में डॉक्टर को दिखाने गए चिकित्सक द्वारा पर्ची मांगने पर बिफर गए और बोले — "बकवास मत कर!" जब डॉक्टर ने उनसे विनम्रता से बात करने की गुजारिश की, तो साहब और भड़क गए। आखिर डॉक्टर का अपराध क्या था? दिनभर मरीजों की सेवा कर रहे चिकित्सकों के कार्यस्थल (सरकारी अस्पतालों/ स्वास्थ्य केन्द्रों) पर अपमानित किए जाने वाले समाचार सुर्खियों में आ रहे हैं एवं वीडियो सोशल मीडिया पर शेयर किए जा रहें हैं। सरकारें, राजनेता, समाज, सामाजिक संस्थाएँ, मानव अधिकार संगठन आदि मूकदर्शक बनकर चिकित्सकों के इस अपमान को देख रहें हैंI देश के दूरस्थ सरकारी स्वास्थ्य केंद्रों, सरकारी अस्पतालों में दिन-रात रोगियों का उपचार सेवा करने वाले रेजिडेंट्स चिकित्सक आज प्रतिदिन अपमान के घूंट पीकर में कठिन परिस्थितियों में प्रतिदिन सैंकड़ों मरीज़ों के उपचार करते समय अपमानित होते हुए मूक बनकर मानसिक वेदना से कराह रहा है एवं चिकित्सक बनने के अपने फैसले पर पछता रहा है। राजस्थान के मुखिया के सुपुत्र भी डॉक्टर हैं, अनेकों प्रशासनिक अधिकारियों, राजनेताओं, वकीलों, पत्रकारों, आदि के अपने बच्चे या रिश्तेदार भी डॉक्टर बन रहे हैं। यदि चिकित्सकों के अपमान के विरोध में आवाज नहीं उठाई गई, ठोस कार्यवाही नहीं की गई तो वह दिन दूर नहीं जब देश में अपमानित होने के लिए कोई भी नीट (NEET) जैसी कठिन परीक्षा में चयनित होकर दस से बारह वर्षों की अति कठिन मेडिकल ट्रेनिंग कर चिकित्सक नहीं बनना चाहेगा। यदि चिकित्सक बन भी गया तो चिकित्सा कार्य करने की बजाय वह दूसरे क्षेत्र में कार्य करना पसन्द करेंगेI शायद यही वज़ह है कि देश के परम विशेषज्ञ चिकित्सकों (MS/MD/DM/Mch) का सरकारी सेवाओं से धीरे-धीरे मोह भंग होने लगा है। साथ ही साथ हजारों युवा चिकित्सक आज चिकित्सा क्षेत्र को छोड़ कर अन्य क्षेत्रों की और रुख कर रहें हैंI देश के हज़ारों युवा चिकित्सक भारत छोड़कर विदेश जाकर चिकित्सा कार्य करना चाहते हैं । युवा चिकित्सकों का चिकित्सा कार्य एवं सरकारी सेवाओं में बढ़ती अरुचि एवं युवा चिकित्सकों का विदेश पलायन रोकने एवं देश की स्वास्थ्य सेवाओं को बेहतर बनाने हेतु चिकित्सकों का अपमान रोकने हेतु सरकार, राजनेताओं मानव अधिकार संस्थाओं, न्यायपालिका एवं सभ्य समाज को ठोस कदम उठाने होगें। अन्यथा वह दिन दूर नहीं जब देश में योग्य चिकित्सकों का अभाव होने के कारण हमें उत्तम स्वास्थ्य सेवाओं से वंचित होना पड़े। डॉ. सुरेश पाण्डेय, कोटा (लेखक, प्रेरक वक्ता, नेत्र चिकित्सक) How Long Will Doctors Be Treated This Way? When the doctor politely requested respectful communication, the SDM became even more aggressive. What wrong have these doctors committed? Videos and news stories of doctors being insulted at government hospitals are now circulating everywhere. Yet society, leaders, and even human rights groups remain silent. These doctors, often working in remote and resource-strapped hospitals, continue to face humiliation daily. They endure immense mental strain and wonder if they made the wrong decision by choosing to become doctors. Consider this irony — many senior officials, politicians, and influential figures have children or relatives who are doctors. If this culture of disrespect continues, it won’t be long before young minds stop aspiring to join this noble (medical) profession. After all, who would want to clear the tough NEET exam and undergo 10-12 years of grueling medical training, only to be humiliated? Even if they do become doctors, many will prefer other professions or move abroad in search of better opportunities. Isn't that already happening? Highly skilled specialists (MS/MD/DM/MCh) are gradually losing interest in government services. Thousands of young doctors are either switching fields or choosing to work in foreign healthcare systems where their skills are respected. This is a wake-up call. To protect the dignity of doctors and the future of our healthcare system, immediate steps must be taken. Governments, social organizations, and society at large must come together to ensure that doctors receive the respect they deserve. Because if we don't act now, we’ll soon find ourselves in a nation struggling to provide quality healthcare due to a lack of competent, dedicated doctors.
