Every child has dreams worth seeing clearly and a future worth growing healthy for achieving the Goals. ๐ŸŽฏ During my visit to Tilak Senior Secondary School, Borkheda, Kota, I had the pleasure of speaking with students about caring for their eyes and building a healthier body through everyday habits. To make the message memorable, I brought a little Bollywood into the conversation. Remember Gabbar, Basanti and Veeru in Sholay? I gave the familiar dialogue a playful health twist: “Basanti! Jab tak tere pair chalenge, tab tak iski saans chalegi… tere pair ruke toh goli, yaani tablet ๐Ÿ’Š chalegi!” A little film humour carried a practical message: make movement part of your day! “Movement is Medicine” reminds us to stay active, while “Sitting is the New Smoking” serves as a memorable prompt to break up long periods of sitting. Between study sessions, stand up and move. Across the week, aim for an average of at least 60 minutes a day of active play, brisk walking, cycling or other enjoyable physical activity. Healthy habits and appropriate medical treatment each have their place. ๐Ÿšด‍♂️ ๐ŸŒˆ “Eat Rainbow!” Bring colour to your plate with carrots, tomatoes, spinach, papaya, guava and other seasonal fruits and vegetables. Include pulses, whole grains and other nourishing foods too. A colourful, balanced diet helps provide the variety of nutrients a growing body needs. ๐Ÿ‘️ Give your eyes regular breaks with the 20–20–20 rule: every 20 minutes, look at least 20 feet away for 20 seconds. This can help ease digital eye strain, often called Digital Vision Syndrome. Blink regularly and avoid holding screens too close. Make time for outdoor play, get enough sleep and put screens away an hour before bedtime. If the classroom board looks blurry or headaches keep returning, arrange an eye examination. Dear students, caring for your health deserves a place in your timetable. Start with something small today: add a colour to your plate, take a screen break and make time for a game you love. These are habits you can carry far beyond the classroom. ๐Ÿ’š My heartfelt thanks to the school community for the opportunity to share these messages. Parents and teachers, let us make room for healthy habits in our own routines too, so children can learn from what they see us doing. Dr. Suresh K.
