National Myopia Week (November 14–20, 2024) reminds us of a growing epidemic silently impacting millions, especially children. The overuse of smartphones and digital screens, lack of outdoor activities, and poor reading habits are pushing myopia cases to alarming levels. Did you know that nearly 30% of the global population is myopic today, and by 2050, this number could rise to 50%? India is no exception, with one in four children already affected.
The good news is that simple changes can make a big difference. Encourage children to spend 15 to 30 minutes outdoors daily, as exposure to natural light can reduce the risk of myopia by up to 40%. Limit screen time and adopt the 20-20-20 rule—take a 20-second break every 20 minutes to look at something 20 feet away. Ensure proper lighting while studying and prioritize regular eye check-ups to detect vision problems early.
Healthy eyes are the foundation of a bright future. Let’s work together to safeguard the vision of our children. Watch our awareness video to learn more and make a pledge to fight myopia today!
